Historic cruises
Cruise to Māngungu and visit the Māngungu Mission.
The Māngungu Mission house, built in 1838, was the site of the third signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi | Treaty of Waitangi.
The Wesleyan Methodist Church of Aotearoa-New Zealand and the Celtic cross are also well worth the visit.
A Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga guide will take you on a tour of the Mission station.
Check out the link below for more information on the Māngungu Mission.
Bird watching
Cruise the harbour and discover local wild bird colonies.
Experience a tranquil cruise up mangrove-lined estuaries and visit a black shag rookery, tucked away in the upper reaches of the Hokianga Harbour. We are mindful of the sustainability of the colony. This tour is tide-specific, and care is taken to not disrupt the wildlife.
White-faced herons, kingfisher, orange oyster catchers, gulls, pied and black shag and pied stilts are also residents of the upper harbour.
Possible sightings of egrets, white herons, royal spoonbills, fairy terns and, very occasionally, black and white oystercatchers are seen during winter months.
Wild birds viewings are not guaranteed and no refunds are offered if wild birds are not sighted.
Sunset tours
The Hokianga Harbour is an expansive waterway on the west coast of New Zealand, simply the best place to watch the sunset.
Departure time varies in the evening depending on seasonal timeframes.
